Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
|
The purpose of this trip is to raise money for the JDRF, a charity devoted to finding a cure for diabetes in children.
Why the JDRF? Diabetes is a chronic, life threatening condition which has a life-long impact on all children affected by it. It is also spreading at an alarming rate worldwide, and the costs of treatment are reaching almost unsustainable levels - in the UK for example, more than 10% of the NHS budget is spent on the treatment of diabetes alone. Never before has the need for a cure been so strong, particularly amongst children. I myself am also diabetic, and have lived with the condition for more than 30 years, but I've always tried hard to ensure it never gets the better of me. This flying trip might even be a source of inspiration to others - the daily grind of insulin injections and blood sugar tests will continue as normal, but doing these at 5000 feet whilst trying to keep an airplane under control will present a few additional challenges! How can I sponsor? There are two ways: 1) Either online via www.justgiving.com/flybike, or 2) By sending me a cheque made payable to "Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation". Please remember to write your name, address and postcode on the back so that Gift Aid can be claimed in addition. Please send the cheque to: (John Carver)Every pound raised goes direct to the charity, so thank you so much for anything you can give! Please email me at info@flybike.co.uk if you have any questions about the above. Thanks again! |
